Apples with PreK 4

Here's to another successful full week in second grade!

We had a great week!  We continued in our math unit and we worked on adding doubles and adding with three and four addends.  I would encourage everyone to practice these two skills at home!  Next week we will move on to subtraction!

We read four decodable books this week and two very funny stories in our text books!  Next week in reading we will start the first unit.  The overall theme of the unit is "Kindness."  We will supplement the text and mini books with other books about kindness, such as "How Full is Your Bucket for Kids" and "Spaghetti on a Hot Dog Bun."  We will talk about who is kind, where we can be kind and different ways in which to show kindness.  We will also continue to read books written by Kevin Henkes, which we started this week.

Next week we will start the grammar piece of the reading and writing curriculum and we will focus on nouns.  We will also move up to 15 spelling words- all of which will have long vowel sounds.

In religion, we finished Chapter 1 which focused on the Holy Family and the Blessed Trinity.  We began Chapter 2, which focuses on being a follower of Jesus- like the disciples and Apostles.

In science this week we began to discuss matter and solids, liquids and gasses.  Next week we will continue with this and I hope to get to a fun experiment too :)

Today, we also helped the PreK4 class learn about apples through their senses.  Mr. Langan read us all a book and then we worked in small groups/pairs.  I will post pictures.

I hope that everyone had as great of a week as I did and that you all have a restful and relaxing weekend !  See you Monday!
