Good Afternoon!

We had a great day today!!! We did a TON of review for tomorrow's math test.  Students will bring home a math packet.  This is to help to prepare for the test, however it DOES NOT have to be completed.  We used it to help us review in class.  Again, I did not send home a review sheet because the test is very straight forward.  Students need to know:
Three digit addition and subtraction (including money)
Rounding to the nearest hundred
Word Problems ( some with more than one step and the "shape" problems I sent home last week)
Finding patterns in a series of numbers ( +/- 1, 10, 100)
For example
234, 334, 434, ______
534
+100
We finished our study of the Blessed Mother and made beautiful mobiles in her honor.  We also started our new unit in science- PLANTS! Everyone chose a seed to plant :)

Homework

Spelling- 3x each
Math- study for test tomorrow

I will not being writing a full review sheet for this sheet because there are only a few topics on the test.

2 - word proms ( with two stems, and with the shapes I mentioned yesterday- make sure they know the words sum and difference)
3 - rounding to the nearest hundred
4 - finding a pattern in a group of numbers ( +/- 1, 10, 100)

Homework
Math- p123
Spelling- 2 times each, test tomorrow

Good Afternoon!
We did a lot today!  In reading we talked about making text to text and text to self connections.  In math we worked on problem solving.  There will be a math test next Wednesday.  The page that went home today, as well as the page that went home yesterday both have samples of the types of word problems that will be on the test.  Pay particular attention to the ones that have the shapes with the numbers and say something like "What is the sum of the numbers in the purple circle."  We had the Lancer Cafe which I am told was wonderful and everyone was well mannered!  In science we read a magazine article about simple machines, forces and effort.  We did an experiment too!!  The results of the experiment were that it takes less force to use a lever when moving something than it does if you try to lift it up directly.

Communion Posters are due!

Homework

Math - p124 ( they do not have to do 123 however they can use it as practice for the test)
Spelling- sentences 7-12 all in cursive

We had a great day today!

First of all I would like to say how AMAZING the class was at May Crowning.  They did the best job ever and I was SO proud of them.  So many parents, staff members and students have had kind words about how beautiful it was.

THERE IS NO HOMEWORK!!!!
Principal Niebergall ( a third grade student who was principal for the day) announced it to be a no homework day!

MAY CROWNING

Parents,

On Monday, May 14, we will have our annual May Crowning.  As you know, students in the second grade play an important role in the crowning.  They are allowed to go home for lunch at 11:45 and return in their Communion/dress clothes at 1:15.  The ceremony will begin at 1:30 and all are invited.  We will take a group picture afterwards.  Students do not need to bring book bags back to school and will be dismissed after the ceremony.  If your child is going to aftercare, I will have him/her change back into the uniform so as not to ruin the dress clothes.

Finally...we ended our day with The Prayer of Saint Francis.  I told the class to  try to be peacemakers this weekend and to help to make the weekend peaceful for their mothers...

Happy Mother's Day - may it be both blessed and peaceful :)
