Good Afternoon

We were very busy today.  In reading we read a new story and looked up new vocabulary words in the glossary.  We wrote the definitions and used the words in sentences.  We also worked on making text to self connections.  In math we are working on regrouping in subtraction.  These are the common errors students are making- 1. not showing the work. 2. rushing 3. starting in the tens column.  Students need to be reminded that they must start in the ones column and then ask themselves - "Can 2 take away 5?" before doing the next step.. I know it is tedious and it is new to them so we are working on it at school.  Please practice with them at home as well.

We are working really hard on the Act of Contrition.  Please practice this at home too.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!!

I hope everyone had a very restful vacation.

Students who are receiving Penance- the books are due to me Monday.  I will forward them to Mrs. Kennedy.
Please be aware that on Monday each student will meet individually with one of the priests.  They will have a conversation about the Sacrament of Penance, what sin is and they will be expected to know the following four prayers
Hail Mary
Our Father
Glory Be
Act of Contrition
We have been practicing in class, but I ask that you please practice at home as well.  Due to the short week, we have no spelling this week.  Please use those minutes to practice the prayers.  Today I sent home a mini prayer book with each student that has all 4 prayers and their words.

We were very busy today,  In reading we read the decodable book "Meet the Firefights" and answered comprehension questions.  In writing we wrote about our vacations. In math we started regrouping in subtraction.  This is a bit tedious.  I encourage all students to take their time and to show ALL of the work.  In religion we worked on the prayers and what the sacrament of Penance will look like the first time we do it.

Students enrolled in art club got letters from Mrs. Dennehy before vacation, please forward her the dues.
